Houston Drone Video produced recurring video and photography for Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) at the Pirates Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant in Galveston. The Project: Pirates Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant Replacement
The Pirates Beach project was a major municipal infrastructure upgrade on Galveston’s West End. New wastewater capacity had to be added while the existing facility continued operating, all within a constrained coastal site.
LAN brought us in to turn that work into useful marketing content. We filmed drone footage, ground-level video, interviews, testimonials, timelapse and photography that could show both the scale of the project and the difficulty behind it.
The story was bigger than construction progress. This was infrastructure needed to support continued residential growth in the area.
What the Video Needed to Accomplish
LAN needed us to produce a case study people could understand.
The finished content had to work for marketing, community publications and project communications, where many viewers would know little about wastewater infrastructure. Our job was to make the challenge clear without turning the video into an engineering lecture or an overproduced advertisement.
We used aerial footage to show scale, closer shots to reveal the complexity of the site, and interviews to let LAN explain the work in its own voice.
That is how we approach B2B video. Creativity should strengthen the story and the brand, not compete with either.
How We Covered It
A working jobsite should not have to reorganize itself because a video crew arrived.
We planned each visit around the work already happening on site. Drone footage showed the overall footprint and how new construction fit around the operating plant. Ground cameras brought the viewer closer to the work. Interviews added context, while timelapse showed changes that happened between production days.
On the film day we handled the cameras, audio, lighting, drone planning, and interviews. This allowed the LAN Engineering team to focus on the project and their own walkthrough.
The goal was simple: make the work look polished, make the story easy to follow and make the production itself easy on the client.
Production Notes: What This Project Taught Us
The most important part of this project was not the size of the construction. It was making the reason behind it visible.
Wastewater infrastructure is easy to overlook when it works. For LAN, the stronger story was how a difficult engineering project supported the continued growth of Galveston's West End while construction moved forward around an operating municipal facility.
That changed what we looked for while filming. The best footage was not always the most dramatic shot. It was the image, interview or moment that helped a viewer understand the challenge without needing an engineering background.
That is a useful lesson for B2B video in general. Good production should make complicated work easier to understand, give the client's expertise room to come through and leave them with content that feels like their company rather than the production crew's interpretation of it.
