Coastal Engineering: Drone Video & Infrastructure Overview for Galveston’s Municipal Upgrades

A comprehensive engineering video overview produced for Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN), utilizing low-altitude drone cinematography and aerial progress tracking to showcase civil construction milestones at the modern Pirates Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant in Galveston, Texas.

The Objective: Building Coastal Resilience for Galveston’s West End

A comprehensive engineering video overview produced for Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN), utilizing low-altitude drone cinematography and aerial progress tracking to showcase civil construction milestones at the modern Pirates Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant in Galveston, Texas.

Challenge: Managing Complex Island Construction Logistics Executing a major civil utility overhaul on the West End of Galveston Island requires navigating tight site limits. To upgrade the facility from a limited 0.15-MGD output to a robust 0.5-MGD average daily flow system, the engineering blueprint relied on a highly advanced, phased activated sludge treatment process built directly on top of the original active plot footprint. Space was at an absolute premium. Because the existing municipal plant had to remain completely operational for local residents throughout the entire multi-year build, our high-altitude drone tracking flights had to map precise spatial sequences over multiple months. These aerial updates gave off-site civil engineers clear data regarding structural clearances, adjacent lift station installations, and equipment staging boundaries without requiring physical site visits.

Production Highlights & Engineering Context

It takes a lot of careful planning to film a massive municipal construction zone while keeping crews safe on the ground. Documenting active public utility spaces requires a sophisticated, highly adaptive media framework capable of capturing real-time civil achievements without delaying heavy excavation schedules. We captured crisp views of the new building layouts.

Challenge: Flight Clearances & Corporate Safety Compliance Flying commercial drones over critical infrastructure near municipal airpaths requires maximum safety protocols. Because the Pirates Beach job site sits just down the coast from Scholes International Airport, our corporate production team had to establish direct digital handshakes with federal air traffic coordinators to clear our flight coordinates. We secured rapid automated approvals using the LAANC network. Carrying a comprehensive five-million-dollar aviation liability policy allowed our media operators to easily clear municipal vendor verification hurdles, keeping the city’s legal and project management departments completely happy.

The Deliverable: Showcasing Engineering Excellence

We captured crisp views of the new building layouts. Working hand-in-hand with site supervisors allowed our licensed operators to get clean cinematic perspectives of the specialized, space-saving "bullseye" modular tank designs being built right alongside the operational facility.

The final media library gives corporate managers a beautiful, highly detailed showcase of their structural achievements.
